The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as amended by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008, prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with a disability. The ADA provides comprehensive civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, public accommodations, and governmental services.
Mecklenburg County government is responsible for ensuring that all County department comply with Title II of the ADA. Title II ensures that that individuals with disabilities have equal access to County programs, services and facilities.
You are able to request modifications for any County program, service or facility.
Examples of qualifying programs or service modifications:
- ASL
- Braille
- Large print
- Interpreter
- Policy transition
Examples of qualifying facility modifications:
- Mobility assistance for navigating a County building
- Barrier removal: something blocking a County amenity such as a doorway, water fountain, trash can, etc.
- Accessible restrooms
